PAGID brake pads to optimise your karting performance
Braking plays an important role in kart racing. The braking system (disc, caliper, pad...) is just as important as the engine to guarantee your safety and good performance during a race. A sudden brake application allows you to turn your kart sharply to place it at the entrance of a hairpin or a fast curve. A progressive brake application allows you to position the chassis in the direction of the corner you want to take while allowing you to make the most of the tyre grip on the track. Depending on the corner, these two ways of braking allow you to re-accelerate more quickly and save time, which is very useful for winning a race.
Insufficient braking, on the other hand, will cause an understeer situation. It causes oversteer at the entrance to the corner and thus prevents you from steering. In karting, only the rear wheels are braked. If you brake too hard, they will lose their grip and start to skid. This will cause you to oversteer and probably spin.
In addition, the brake pads that adjust the braking power are accessories that are subject to high temperatures and brutal stresses when driving on the track. It is therefore necessary to change them regularly and, above all, to choose high quality replacement parts. Therefore, choose PAGID brake pads, which we offer at attractive prices in our online shop. They are designed to have a low thermal conductivity and a friction coefficient that changes proportionally to the high wheel temperatures on the track.
PAGID brake pad replacement and running-in
The lining of a brake pad compatible with your kart wears out as it rubs against the discs. You should therefore change your kart's brake pads frequently to ensure optimal braking during a race. To know if you need to change your brake pads, here are some signs that you can't go wrong:
- the braking of your kart is less efficient and the braking distance increases,
- the thickness of the lining is more than 70% worn compared to the original thickness,
- braking causes a metallic noise (a sign that the pad lining is completely worn out).
After choosing a suitable model from our catalogue and replacing the brake pads on your kart, you need to break them in.
Here is our recommended running-in technique if you are fitting PAGID brake pads to your kart. The first step is to make sure that the contact between the brake pad and the disc is perfect. To do this, make ten stops to go from 150 km/h to 80 km/h without locking the wheels of the kart. During this manoeuvre, the pressure on the brake pads should be medium and the temperature kept low.
The entire kart braking system must then be warmed up. A series of five stops from 180 km/h to 60 km/h is necessary without locking the wheels. During this stage, the pressure on the brake pads should be medium to high. In addition, the acceleration should be maximum between two stops. Finally, three to five stops should be made with the kart to get down to 80 km/h from an initial speed of 150 km/h. The pressure on the brake pads should be medium and the wheels should not be locked.
Don't wait any longer to get PAGID brake pads for your karting at a very interesting price on ORECA Store. We will send them to you as soon as possible.
