In this article, you will find all the information about our brake pads for sport driving.
What are the characteristics of our platelets?
Brake pads are undoubtedly a crucial part of your vehicle's braking performance and thus contribute to your safety while driving. They consist of two parts: the steel base and the lining. In motor racing, the purpose of these components is to increase braking power. Due to the friction caused by high speeds and heat on the track, they are subject to high temperatures and sudden stresses. For your safety, they must be replaced very frequently. If the metal of the bracket is in direct contact with the brake disc, your braking will become less effective and you will endanger yourself and your vehicle.
The performance and life of brake pads depends on their quality. If you are a sports driver, we offer a wide range of ceramic, carbon and composite brake pads that have proven themselves in the racing world. Designed by the best brands of racing parts such as AP Racing, Ferodo, PAGID or CL Brakes, our sport range offers you the experience of an excellent attack for a powerful braking whatever your discipline (rally, circuit racing, etc.).
Why choose our brake pads?
Our competition brake pads are made of special, highly resistant materials such as "ceramic-carbon-metallic", which enable them to withstand high temperatures. No asbestos is added as this element has been banned since 1997. They are designed by leading manufacturers and most of them have proven their efficiency on professional tracks. This is the case of the Ferodo DS2500 and DS3000, CL Brakes RC5, RC6, RC8 or the PAGID RS4, RS29 and RS19, which have won numerous awards.
We have a large selection of brake pads and brake equipment for almost 29 car brands. If you drive a Subaru, Opel, Ford, Peugeot, Skoda, Renault, Audi or any other type of vehicle, you can find the right brake pads in our online catalogue. Here you will find our best competition brake pads of the moment.
When should I change my brake pads?
It is recommended that you change these tools as soon as you notice any squealing, vibration or loss of braking performance. A visual check can also tell you whether it is time to fit new ones. If you notice scratches on the brake discs, this is a consequence of ineffective brake pads. You can also remove the brake pads to check their condition. Their friction coefficient is particularly optimised even at very high temperatures. For more efficiency, use a high quality brake fluid.
Most competition cars have a warning light on the dashboard to let you know if they are deteriorating. The thickness of the trim is also an indicator of wear, so refer to the product for the thickness when new. Lateral deflection while driving can also alert you to a malfunctioning brake component. Most sport driving pads have an integrated wear indicator that warns you when the pads are being checked.
How do you install brake pads yourself?
Replacing brake pads is a delicate task, as your safety is at stake. If you need help in the process, you can always contact our sales staff, who will provide you with information and reliable solutions.
The tools needed to install the inserts
To replace your pads, you will need a few mechanical tools:
- A jack
- Adjustable stanchions capable of supporting the weight of the vehicle
- A toolbox containing several types of spanners (flat, eye and pipe spanners), screwdrivers or levers, a clamp, pliers, a hammer, etc.
- A piston plunger
- The right brake fluid for your car
- A brake cleaner
Dismantling
Choose a quiet, flat place where you can concentrate on your work. Use the jack to lift the car. Then place it on the jack to keep it upright. Remove half of the brake fluid from the reservoir, taking care not to let it touch the car's paint. Remove the wheel from the axle you wish to start with, to gain access to the brake caliper. This can be fixed or floating.
On a front wheel drive, you do not have to remove it before removing the pads. Simply remove the pins or springs that hold them in place. In the second case, unscrew the top or bottom of the caliper and tilt it, or remove the moving part by removing the two screws. Using the screwdriver, push the piston of the front caliper to recover the old pads. At the rear, you will need a piston remover if the parking brake is connected to it. Also, when removing, pay attention to the directions and positions, as you will need them when installing the new pads.
Reassembly
Check whether the seal around the pistons is still usable. If it is not, it is best to replace your calipers. Place your new Oreca Store brake pads on the caliper in the opposite direction to their removal. If it is a floating assembly, replace the mobile part that was previously removed and screw it back on. If it is fixed, simply replace the pins or springs. Refit the wheels and add new brake fluid to the master cylinder. Finally, lower the vehicle and press the brake pedal several times until it hardens. Note that it is imperative to warm up the brake pads gradually so that they can deliver their maximum performance, depending on whether the brake discs are new or broken in.
In motorsport, brake parts wear out quickly and therefore need to be changed periodically. EBC BRAKES, ENDLESS pads, AP RACING pads: we provide you with high quality material that delivers high friction performance, suitable for leisure and competition. This guarantees you maximum safety and optimum comfort on the road and on the track.
