What are the brake pads for?
Brake pads play a simple and essential role of contact with the brake disc. This friction slows down the rotation of the disc and by extension slows down the wheel and the car. It is the brake calliper which, by tightening, brings the brake pads into contact with the disc. The caliper is activated when the driver presses the brake pedal and therefore disperses the brake fluid throughout the braking system. The caliper is responsible for applying the same amount of pressure as the driver applied the pedal when braking.
The pads therefore play a physical role at the end of the chain and are therefore very exposed to wear. It is therefore essential to keep the pads in good condition for proper braking.
