What are the brake pads for?
Brake pads play an essential role in your braking system by pressing against the discs to slow their rotation and that of the wheels. The pressure exerted on the brake pedal is transmitted by the brake fluid to the calipers, which reflect the desired level of braking by tightening and bringing the pads into contact with the brake disc to a greater or lesser extent. Their contact thus creates friction which slows down the disc and by transmission the wheel and the car.
It is important to keep the pads in good shape so that the contact with the disc is responsive. Worn pads will not respond properly to the braking demand you make when you press the pedal and could in the worst cases of wear lead to loss of braking.
