Find your new racing wheel on ORECA STORE
Our catalogue offers you a wide range of racing wheels, designed for motor sport. Because on the racetrack or in rallying, it is not enough to have the most powerful engine or the strongest tyres. The driver must also be comfortable in the cockpit in order to achieve the best performance and to get the better of his opponents. In the end, the objective is always the same: to gain precious seconds in order to cross the finish line in the lead.
Why and how to change your steering wheel?
A race is not usually won on the straights. It is often in the corners that drivers can make a difference and outrun their rivals. But to do this, they have to take the best trajectories in order to lose as little time as possible. Or even to take advantage of the slightest gap to overtake.
That's why it's essential to have a quality steering wheel that is both comfortable and responsive. Of course, this does not mean that the car cannot be upgraded to improve its handling and grip. But in the end, it is the driver's manoeuvres that will determine his place in the rankings. Hence the importance of using a steering wheel that is perfectly adapted to the driving style, the space available in the cabin and the driver's preferences.
You can also assemble your new sports steering wheel yourself by following our tutorial, which details each of the necessary steps. All you need is a few tools, including a flathead screwdriver, a 10 mm spanner, a set of hexagonal keys and a cutter. However, certain operations may prove tricky, particularly with regard to the airbag. If in doubt, do not hesitate to entrust your car to a professional garage, which will be able to carry out the assembly for you, in complete safety.
How to choose your competition wheel?
But before reaching this stage, you need to have found the racing wheel of your dreams. And the least we can say is that you'll have plenty to choose from at ORECA STORE! What are the main characteristics that differentiate the various models?
First of all, the dimensions of the component should be studied, starting with the most obvious one: its diameter. It is important to check that it is well adapted to the position of your arms when driving. But there is another indicator to take into account: the tulipage. Behind this measurement, generally expressed in millimetres, is the distance between the steering wheel's mounting ring and its hoop. In practice, a high tulip ratio (the maximum is usually 90 mm) brings your hands closer to the steering wheel, making it easier to drive with your arms slightly bent.
In addition, while the parts on offer are usually round, others may have a more elongated shape. This is often the case with steering wheels designed for single-seaters, which also have a flat tulip so as not to clutter the passenger compartment.
Finally, you can choose between different materials, in particular leather or split leather. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, so it's up to you to decide which one you find most comfortable. Note however that some riders prefer to avoid leather in competition, as it can be slippery, and prefer to use a split skin, which would make it easier to grip. However, as with all the properties mentioned here, it all depends on the sensitivity of each individual. So don't hesitate to test different models to make your own opinion.
