What are the brake discs for?

When the rider presses the brake pedal and requests a certain level of braking, it pumps a quantity of brake fluid proportional to the level of braking requested throughout the braking system. This communicates with the brake calipers, which respond to the braking force by tightening to a greater or lesser extent, thereby pressing the brake pads against the brake discs. The friction resulting from this contact will slow down the rotation of the brake disc and by extension the wheel.

This ingenious system is put to the test during aggressive and repeated braking as is the case in racing. Having quality brake discs with good heat dissipation is essential to maintain a good level of braking throughout the driving session.
