An engine's performance is directly related to the amount of air entering its cylinders. The less air is braked, the better the efficiency. The original air box and filter are a brake for the air. Replacing them with a direct intake kit significantly improves air flow by reducing pressure drop.

The direct intake kit makes it possible to eliminate the original airbox and, more often than not, to shorten the distance between the air intake and the engine. This results in a significant power gain at low rpm, and improved torque and throttle response. It is advisable to isolate the intake kit in the engine bay to avoid hot air intake.
