NGK Iridium IX spark plugs are the most highly developed solution on the market.
They have a fine Iridium tip on the central electrode, laser welded during a special process.
Iridium is a precious metal and one of the most solid materials available.
It has a melting point of 2,450°C so is highly resistant to electrical erosion caused by the spark.
The service life of an Iridium spark plug is two and half times that of a standard spark plug.
The use of Iridium makes it possible to:
- Reduce the central electrode to a very fine tip just 0.6 mm in diameter/optimised flame propagation.
- Reduce the ignition voltage.
- Improve the spread of the flame front in the combustion chamber. Easier starting.
- Less voltage required.
- Fuel savings of up to 5%.
- Better engine responsiveness (up to 0.7 seconds gained on a 0 to 100 km/h).
- Exterior anti-corrosion and anti-seizing plating.
- Reduced pollutant emissions.
- More stable engine idle with fewer vibrations.
- 2-Step Technology: prevents deposits building up on the insulator, thanks to a cleaning processing involving an electrical arc.
